My background before AI
In a web career which is now in its 28th year, I have been professionally managing websites and fulfilling a range of related roles, including:- eCommerce Business Analysis
- e-Commerce Project Management
- Web Development
- User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
- User Experience (UX)
- Usability Testing
- International website compliance
- And many other aspects of website management
So why the switch to AI?
To be clear, this hasn't actually been a switch from web design to AI, but an augmentation of skills, tools and processes to make things easier for businesses and their customer alike.
To put it another way...
After several years of striving to find the right balance between making the customer journey as smooth and user friendly as possible, whilst also ensuring the all of the information they need is accessible without getting in the way, AI came along.
Suddenly I could see the solution!
With an AI chatbot or digital assistant, customers now have the ability to be dynamically informed and advised at any point throughout the customer journey.
Customers can ask questions and be answered in a simple conversational way, and also be guided through paths or processes specific to their situation, and based on the needs and requirements of both the business and the customer.
So where do I come in?
Website production tools such as WordPress, Wix, and even AI, have made it far quicker and easier to create a basic website in recent years.
But nothing has replaced the need for discussions with business owners to ensure that their website and any process associated with it meets their goals and the needs of their customers.
Getting a thorough understanding of what those needs are, and seeing each project through to completion and beyond whilst keeping clients involved and informed throughout has been a huge part of my job for more than two decades.
Basic principles
Those basic principle continue now that AI is on the scene, because no matter what people's beliefs about what AI can and cannot do, it needs to be conceived, planned, implemented and managed according to business and customer needs instead of on its own terms.
After all, you don't want to lose control over your brand and business because you have no idea what AI is telling your customers, do you? That's why harnessing the power of AI in the right way is critical!
